REALTOR® Ring Day
You hear the bell ring. You see a bundled up volunteer standing beside a red kettle bell. You know the holidays are here.
The tradition has been around since 1891 when Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee was searching for a solution feeding 1000 hungry people in San Francisco. Six years later the effort had spread nationwide and was feeding more than 15,000.
Today more than 25,000 bell ringers around the country collect (in good years) upwards of $25 million in donations to support the impactful programs led by The Salvation Army. These funds are used to support homeless shelters, supply food to those in need, give support services to Veterans, keep utilities on for families in need, assist with disaster relief, provide gifts to children for the holidays, and much more. The exciting news? $.82 of every dollar received is put to work in the community in which the money was donated. The powerful impact of red kettle bells has been felt by millions in the last 130 years.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army has seen fewer donations, lower rates of volunteerism, and staggering increases in need from families and individuals. Combine that with the national coin shortage in 2020 and things have been harder than ever.
Where there is a need, there are those ready to step up and help. Let’s go first.
